Amber Chand Keynote Speaker at Rotary Foundation Dinner, Springfield, Massachusetts

Theme: The Power of People to Change the World

Amber was invited to be one of two speakers at the annual Rotary Foundation Annual Dinner held in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Invoking Mother Theresa's gentle reminder that it is "not so much the grand gestures that we create in life that make a difference but rather the small gestures done with great love that make the difference", Amber spoke about the humility of her work with craftswomen in regions of conflict and post conflict. Her commitment stems from her identity as a mother, entrepreneur, peace builder and global citizen. Amber spoke about her personal experience as a refugee who lost her entire posessions at the young age of 21 years old when she was expelled from Uganda by Idi Amin Dada in 1973, as part of the Asian expulsion. This significant event in her personal life has brought her to her heartfelt work today.

Joining Amber at the podium was Dick Young, a film-maker, who spoke about his work in Denan, Ethiopia supporting thousands of malnourished refugees, dying from malaria and respiratory disease, drinking polluted salt water. He has launched The Denan Project that supports a clinic treating over 8000 patients in its first year. To learn more about this project please visit www.thedenanproject.com.

Ten Percent of the sales of products from the Amber Chand Collection from that evening are being donated to the important humanitarian work of the Rotary Foundation.
