Jerusalem Candle of Hope: A Call To Peace

(This communique was sent out at the height of the Israeli war in Lebanon in the summer of 2006)

At this time of fierce and intense suffering in the Middle East, please join with us in lighting the Jerusalem Candle of Hope - this gentle but powerful symbol illuminating our hope and resolve for peace in our world.

A candle lit today sends a strong message of support to the women in Israel and Palestine who, in spite of their differences and their overwhelming challenges, have come together to create this lovely object of beauty and light.Today, many Palestinian and Israeli families are being economically supported through this rare collaboration built on the foundations of peace. And hundreds more can benefit through your purchases -each a meaningful act offered in thoughtful support!

A candle lit sends a strong message of support for the work of The Parents Circle a remarkable organization of bereaved families, on either side of the conflict, who have lost a family member to the conflict, and have chosen instead the path of reconciliation and peace as a way to heal their grief. Today their HELLO PEACE toll free telephone initiative enables Israelis and Palestinians to create dialogue across conflict lines. Five percent from the sale of each candle supports this important work.

A candle lit in our homes allows each of us to become ambassadors for peace - recognizing that we must seek a way for our families and communities to live peacefully in our world and take action - no matter how small we think it may seem.

The Jerusalem Candle of Hope - this rare and remarkable collaboration happening in the Middle East today through women's hands - offers a lucid symbol for our collective vision for peace and goodwill.

Please join with us in lighting The Jerusalem Candle of Hope each day. For during this dark and difficult time, a candle lit illuminates our deepest hopes and dreams for a peaceful future!

And Every Light Counts!
