Tales of the Boatwoman is a powerful 75-minute storytelling performance that transports audiences into the evocative world of Amber’s ancestors in India and Africa.
Through stories excerpted from her forthcoming book, Tales of the Boatwoman, a book of ancestral tales, creative memoir and wisdom teachings, audiences will discover why a passionate elopement turns into an unhappy betrayal; how a black and white photograph dramatically changes the destiny of an entire family and how an ancient Vedic mantra consoles a young Indian bride as she makes her solitary journey across the Indian ocean to meet her groom.
In offering these compelling stories, Amber brings skillful narrative and theatrics to her performances. And through her Stories That Give Back Initiative, she seeks not only to entertain but to support the community with partial proceeds from her performance donated to a local non-profit.
Stories transport us into other worlds and connect us to a deeper human story. We need our stories. Our stories need us.
Tales of the Boatwoman is currently on tour and has been performed at various venues in New England, including the Berkshires and Martha’s Vineyard and internationally, at the Teatro Santa Ana in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
